The World Top 5 Quick Tips to a Better Resume

◆ Don’t write ‘Resume’ or ‘Curriculum Vitae’ at the top of your resume (or any other version of the word Curriculum that I’ve seen)
We know what it is and you can’t afford to waste the space.
Which brings me to my next point

◆ Try and keep your resume to 1 or 2 pages. It should be a clear, concise snapshot of your academic (if relevant) and career history, not the next novel in the Hunger Games series.

◆ No head shot. Just don’t do it. With the anti-discrimination laws in place you would expect recruiters to refrain from making snap judgements on your appearance. Unfortunately, it’s human nature, and despite being the stud you undoubtedly are, you’re possibly doing yourself a disservice. Let your skills and experience do the talking and leave the selfie for instagram.

◆ One resume does not fit all. Tailor your resume to the vacancy (without over-embelleshing). A carefully targeted resume can mean the difference between success and failure.

◆ Typos, spelling, grammar. Check, check, check!
These are completely avoidable if you just proofread, and get someone to proofread again. Otherwise you’ll just come across as careless. Side note – the misuse of words like affect/effect or oriented/orientated can be a resume killer.
