Query and Answer – What if You Don’t Know Technical Answer

I work in a technical department and though I am educated there are times that I don’t know how to perform certain aspect of the job that I am inquired about during the interview? How am I supposed to reply these queries?

Answer:

We spend much time teaching you how to speak lie and stretch the reality during job interviews. Although, when it comes to answering queries about your capabilities, there are not many choices. You never know when that knowledge is going to play a great role in your job, and if you answer that you know how to do something that you don’t know how to do, you threat getting instantly labeled a liar and potentially laid off.

Answer Honestly

It is hard to say, but it is best if you answer this query quickly and honestly. Lying is not efficient, since it’s bad to get a job and get laid off then to not get a job at all. Although, you also do not need to make excuses. Excuses make you appear incompetent. Apologizing makes you seem weak.

Wrong Answer:

“No, I do not consider so, sorry. Is that a great deal? I’ve had little experience with X, but I’m not certain if it is related. It might be, but I would have to check it out and observe for sure.”

This answer makes you appear somewhat sad. Like you are panicking because you haven’t had an experience in the past.  Do not apologize or attempt to come up with ways to make them agree otherwise. Your great bet is one of the following answers:

Right Answers:

  • “I haven’t yet had experience with that product.”
  • “I haven’t utilized that product, but I’ve utilized product X which is similar.”
  • “I would love train in that place. That is a product I’ve always needed to learn.”

It is not your mistake you have not utilized the product or performed the action before. If you apologize or attempt to come up with excuses, it makes it sound like it is your mistake. An instant answer about how you don’t know is all you require. If they don’t hire you because you are not familiar with that product, that is there decision.
