This can be quite a complicated query to answer. You have to appear to be capable to work independently but also demonstrate that you do not have any unhealthy problems with authority that would make you difficult to work with. Employers like to inquire what you hope from your employers and leaders for two main reasons:
- They need to see if you have appropriate expectations for industry leadership.
- They need to see if you utilize this as an opportunity to complain about initial supervisors/leaders.
How to Answer
The best way to answer is to concentrate on the good skills of the last supervisor you had and stay away from those things that could imply you did not like them.
Good Answer
“My last leader/supervisor had a lot of skills I acknowledged. She would often inquire for my thoughts and opinions on the best course of action before I initiated on a project. She would also manage regular check ins with me to make sure we were on the similar page, and every once in a while we would amuse a conversation about coffee regarding my upcoming projects and duties. I expect that any supervisor I have shares those skills.”
By keeping the concentration on what you liked about your initial supervisor, you make sure that it does not sound like you are complaining, and you strengthen the idea that these skills are true and realistic, since you are pointing to a particular person in your recent background and stating “she did it, so I hope it from others.”
Take Away Interview Tips:
- Keep the concentration on your previous supervisor.
- Only elaborate the positive skills they had.
