Career Counseling in Pakistan
Student life is complete package of charm and enjoyment and every person who is in practical life always seem to miss the memories of his/her student life. But the student life also has many issues and challenges of its own. The students of developing countries such as Pakistan have various problems, like financial issues, poor transportation network, language obstacles, incompetent professors and many more. One of the issues confronted by students is that generally they are not free to select study programmes of their own choice. Parents usually compel upon them a field of study which may not be appropriate for the child or which he does not feel comfortable with to study. This is a very usual issue of our society. A student may need to be a journalist or a photographer but his parents may choose engineering for him. So when he gets admission in engineering college, he doesn’t perform well. He then initiates to feel that he is not suitable for the study. Parents should consider about it and prevent imposing study programmes on their kids. They should only tell them about the scope and challenges of every field and let them select a study programme for themselves.
Students, after passing their matriculation examination, confront too many challenges about the selection of their higher studies. They do not know which study place is best for them. Most of the students do not even know various fields of studies other than engineering and medical due to deficiency of study and career counseling. They get admission to these fields and then do not acquire good marks. That is when they cannot get admission to medical or engineering colleges, and become depressed about their career and practical life. We do not have career counselors in Pakistan in comparison to some institutions which hire career counselors to direct their students. Students should have certain basic knowledge about any field before choosing to take it as their upcoming profession. Students should be capable to consult their teachers, parents and friends in this context, specifically the individuals that are already working in the profession they are interested in.
