“There is really a very particular strategy I like to use with my team. When I am in a meeting and we are discussing a project, and several of my staff shares with me their ideas on how to solve it, I write down each and every idea they’ve, and then we discuss them. When there is an agreement, then that is the solution we will take.
But when comes a disagreement, I put the individual that is disagreeing in charge of the solution that they disagree with. I then put the person whose idea it was in charge of the disagreeing party’s alternative resolution. My belief is that just by attempting to challenge themselves with another individual’s idea can they begin to see the value in this kind of ‘out of the box’ thinking. Mostly they learn a great deal from attempting a solution that they had disagreed with, and they yet feel validated knowing that their own concept is being accepted and worked on.”
