Outstanding communication skills in the workplace are significant. That is why so many resumes consist of words “Great Communication Skills.” But there is a difference between saying you can communicate and demonstrating it. So when asked interview queries about communication style, it is significant to have a solid answer.
Behavioral Interview Queries: What communication style do you prefer to use when interacting with your manager or other team members?
When you’re inquired about communication style, it is significant to be adaptable. Do not stick to just one communication strategy. Adapt your answer to suit the exact question asked. Hiring managers need to know that you have put thought into how you communicate. They also require seeing that you can change your communication style depending on the situation.
Tips to Answer
“It is complicated to give an exact communication style since I tend to adapt my communication style to suit the requirements of my manager or team. I’ll say that I employed an open, honest, but respectful communication style with my previous manager. I trusted his judgment and would defer to his expertise, but I also needed him to know when I had a great idea to contribute, or when I thought I could bring something more to a project. For that, it needed me to be confident and authentic.
With my team members, I adapted to their requirements. Not everyone is at the similar developmental level nor do they communicate the same way. I felt that it was significant to get to know them as individuals to see how I could communicate with them in the most effective way.”
With any interview query about communication style, the more particular and thoughtful your answer the better. The interviewer will feel like you are someone that genuinely knows how to communicate. You simply require making sure you don’t sound too inflexible with your answer. Communication is believed to be one of the most important soft skills a manager requires.
